After years of working with both Art and Shawna Lawson while they were doing innovative economic development with the Government of Ontario and economic diversification for the South Central Ontario Region (SCOR), McSweeney & Associates have partnered with them to improve service delivery and our growing practice in Western Canada!  Following on the heels of a number of successful Western Canada projects, Art and Shawna are instrumental in delivering a BR&E+ project for the City of Fort Saskatchewan which combines an economic analysis, a cross-sector BR&E, resulting strategy, CRM setup. and the capacity-building needed to instill BR&E into a municipality’s ongoing planning.

Art Lawson (B.Sc., M.Sc., EcD) is a pioneer in community development, having made Ontario one of the leading jurisdictions in the world for bottom-up economic strategic planning and development.

A large part of Art’s success is his use of data-driven approach to strategic planning, paired with his intuitive understanding of the needs and dreams of the communities he works with.  This formula of ‘reality meets aspiration’ has proven to be a winning formula for planning and enabling implementation for 100's of communities.

Shawna Lawson (Stonehouse) (B.Comm (UofA), M.Sc. (Planning), EcD) comes to McSweeney with a unique combination of private and public sector experience.  A Red Deer native, after selling her successful emerging-market investment attraction business in Hong Kong, Shawna came back to Canada to do her M.Sc. in Planning and has since worked with communities in Ontario, the U.K. and now Alberta on projects such as BR&E, Downtown Revitalization, Strategic Planning and others to assist them in action/result driven economic  development.
